WHAT IS LIPOSCULPTURE?
It is the surgical art
that gives back the lines and the curves
that are proper
to the patients’ body and face according to their
gender.
This
is done at expense of the fat cells, if there are an excess
of fat cells they are eliminated, and if there are a lack of
them, then they are injected in to the body (Lipoinjection)
AM I A CANDIDATE OF A LIPOSCULPTURE?
If you are a man or woman who has fat deposits that
don’t harmonize with
the form of your body or face, if
your
weight is normal
and your skin is elastic, then you are an ideal candidate for liposculpture.
Obviously,
you should
consider
surgery if these so annoying zones have not disappeared in
spite of physical exercises and low
calorie diets.
WHICH ZONES CAN BE MODIFIED WITH LIPOSCULPTURE?
It’s possible to modify these zones: face, neck, arms, back,

WHICH METHODS ARE USED TO PERFORM LIPOSCULPTURE?
If there
are
fat
build-ups,
these
can be
handled
with liposculpture attended by suction, in other words
liposuction, or with liposculpture attended with
ultrasound or a combination of both methods.
If there
is a lack of volume the best treatment is fat
injections, fat which has been liposuctioned and
treated, the areas that need more volume are the
buttocks, the hips among others. The best method will be the one that your Plastic Surgeon
indicates, that is why a pre-surgical evaluation is very
important.

IF MY DECISION IS TO UNDERGO SURGERY, WHICH PRE OPERATIVE
CARES, SHOULD I HAVE?
Each Surgeon will give you the instructions
according to each case,
and this will depend on your Clinical History. In general
terms, avoid alcohol, drugs, tobacco, certain medicines that
cause alterations of the coagulation and stay healthy for
the surgery.
Blood test and a cardiological evaluation (variable) are very important for the preparation of
the surgery.
WHICH ANESTHESIA METHOD WILL BE USED?
It will depend on the amount of fat to
be sucked,
the disposition, age and degree of apprehension of the
patient. The types of anesthesia that can be used are local,
sedation, the epidural blockade or general anesthesia. The
indications are specific and your surgeon will
give you a
detailed
explanation of the
methods that are suitable for you.
HOW LONG WILL THE SURGERY TAKE AND WHAT POST OPERATIVE CARES
SHOULD I HAVE?
The duration of the surgery will depend on the amount of fat
to
be treated
and if
there is the need to perform another surgery.
After surgery the patient will be dressed
with special wraps, so the liposuctioned zones don’t swell
and so the skin adheres to the deep levels to give the
desired shape. The surgery could be an out patient procedure
or it could require the patient to stay overnight, although
you will be able to walk as soon as you feel capable of
doing so. In all cases you will take antibiotics and pain
medicine during a prudential time
WHEN CAN I RETURN TO MY
NORMAL
ACTIVITIES?
Depending on the amount of liposuccioned fat, you will be
able to return to your
normal
activities as soon as possible, and in all cases
special wraps
prescribed by
the
doctor
are necessary.
Always remember to rest and to
start to exercise a month after the surgery.
WHY DO SOME PATIENTS GAIN WEIGHT AFTER THE LIPOSCULPTURE?
It is important to clarify that the liposculpture is not a
fast method to loose weight; it is a surgical option to
define or smooth
out
the figure in an instantaneous way.
Nevertheless,
it’s smart to think, if a patient decides to undergo this
procedure and has very ambitious desires, it must be because
he or she has decided to change his or her life style to a
healthier one, which should include work outs, and to follow
a low calorie diet, this should be done up to when he or she
wish to maintain the results of the surgery. This means
that while the patient isn’t willing to look and feel good,
he or she should not choose to have a liposculpture, because
the results wouldn’t last and almost for sure would gain
weight.
